As adults, we are well aware of what not to eat in order to prevent tooth decay and cavities. Unfortunately, our children can still be oblivious to these culprits, which means that it’s up to us to better educate them on what foods to avoid. A starting point can be right at home – incorporating healthy eating habits and avoiding sugary, starchy foods.
In addition, keeping routine appointments with their dentist also contribute to a regimen of maintaining healthy oral hygiene. During these visits, I often tell my young patients about the importance of eating the right foods, such as calcium-rich items (i.e., cheese, milk). I also encourage children to skip candy, cake, and other sugar-loaded foods and snacks, including sodas and juice. Once children are educated on the types of foods to avoid and which to incorporate more of, they can carry on these habits into adulthood. This will ultimately help them maintain a healthy smile with minimal dental problems.
Feel free to contact my practice in Beverly Hills if you have any questions on how to get your kids on the right track. Furthermore, should your child require it, we can discuss orthodontics for kids and his/her options.

October is National Dental Hygiene Awareness Month, and I’d like to take this time to further emphasize the importance of implementing positive oral health routines. Maintaining good oral hygiene isn’t something that happens naturally – it’s something that needs to be instilled early on in life. This is best started when the first tooth that breaks through those tiny gums. Parents should be showing their children how to brush, floss, and keep their teeth clean. Furthermore, it is highly recommended that they visit a dentist by their first birthday. This is to check for any abnormal tooth growth and ensure that the teeth and gums are healthy.
A little trivia for you: Sharing utensils or kissing babies on the mouth may spread bacteria that cause cavities. This is something that most, if any, parents ever think about. It is very natural for a mother or father to share his/her food with a child using the same spoon or fork. However, once that same utensil has been in the parent’s mouth, bacteria clings to the utensil and can then be transferred to the child’s mouth. Even blowing on the child’s food can spread the bacteria it. In order to help prevent the spread of bacteria to the child’s gums and teeth, be sure to keep his/her food separate from everyone else’s.
If you have any questions regarding your child’s oral health or your own, please be sure to schedule an appointment at my practice near Los Angeles. As a cosmetic dentist dedicated to helping patient maintain excellent oral hygiene, I look forward to answering your questions and creating a personalized treatment plan for your specific needs.

While we have been told over and over that sugary foods and drinks play a major role in cavities forming, it is rare that we discuss the other types of food that do just as much harm. Acidic items are quite damaging to the teeth as they wear down the enamel and make them more susceptible to cavities and decay.
Some of the most commonly consumed drinks are often the most harmful – lemons, oranges, coffee, tea, and energy drinks. Not only can these stain the teeth, but they also weaken them and make them more prone to cavities. However, because we can’t stop everyone from consuming these items, we can warn them to be mindful of how much they consume. When possible, try to drink from a straw to avoid direct contact with the teeth. Also, be sure to drink plenty of water afterwards in order to wash away the acidic juices and help neutralize the mouth. To help strengthen the teeth, cheese and other calcium-rich foods can be of great benefit.
Feel free to contact my office in Beverly Hills if you are interested in scheduling an initial consultation. We all know that brushing and flossing are extremely important in maintaining good oral hygiene, as well as preserving strong, beautiful teeth. But what else can you do to keep your smile in tip top shape? You may be surprised with these tips for healthy teeth and perhaps may already be practicing them.
- Be sure to consume plenty of calcium-rich food (cheese, low-fat milk, and yogurt), fresh fruits and vegetable (rich in vitamins A and C; chewing promotes healthy gums), and tea (excellent source of fluoride).
- Limit your intake of dried fruit and foods that could get stuck to and between your teeth (leads to decay and cavities).
- Avoid sweet drinks and snacks as they can reduce the production of bacteria. In addition, steering clear of sipping on acidic drinks for prolonged periods can also help prevent tooth decay.
Also, it is important to drink plenty of water. This can help wash away any leftover sugars or other damaging particles left behind after eating/drinking items that cause cavities. The more you do to prevent damage to your teeth, the less likely it will be that you require intense dental treatments.
If you would like to learn more regarding your dental health and wish to speak with a Los Angeles cosmetic dentist, be sure to schedule an appointment at my office in nearby Beverly Hills. I look forward to helping you achieve and maintain a sparkling smile.

Eating right can help you stay healthy and trim; furthermore, the right foods can be of great benefit to prevent tooth decay and maintain a beautiful smile. We all know that staying away from sugary treats is the best thing we can do, but which foods can actually strengthen our teeth? Check out the following list of foods and their beneficial attributes:
- Calcium – Milk, yogurt, and cheese are excellent sources of calcium, which can help prevent tooth decay in all individuals. Children can especially benefit from calcium intake as their teeth are still developing. Other sources of calcium include broccoli, bok choy, Brazil nuts, almonds, canned fish with bones, and dried beans.
- Fruit, Fiber and Veggies – The high-fiber foods can keep saliva flowing. This can greatly help create mineral defenses against tooth decay. Dried fruits such as figs, dates, and raisins, as well as fresh fruits, including apples, bananas and oranges, are great sources of fiber. Peanuts, almonds, beans, Brussels sprouts, and bran are also high in fiber.
- Whole Grains – To keeps gums healthy, B vitamins and iron in whole grains are the way to go. Additionally, they are chock full of fiber. Magnesium is also in whole grains, which is important for bones and teeth. Whole-grain pasta and cereals, brown rice, and bran are great sources of whole grains as well.
As much as we are told to watch what we eat and do our best to take care of our teeth, there are times that no matter what we do we may end up with some dental problems. However, should your teeth need to be removed due to decay and/or gum disease, you have options! Dental implants can help you restore a full set of teeth and provide you with a beautiful smile. A dental implant acts as an artificial tooth root that holds a replacement tooth (crown). Because it is integrated in the jawbone, these implants are durable and long-lasting. These are often used as a replacement for removable dentures as well.
If you are in the Beverly Hills or Los Angeles area and in need of dental implants, please feel free contact my practice. You may also learn more by visiting my website 90210Dentist.net.

How a person’s teeth turn out in adulthood is greatly based on the care they received during the developmental years. This is why it is extremely important for parents to take their children to a qualified dentist and/or orthodontist at the necessary time. Usually, children should see a dentist by their first birthday in order to ensure that their teeth are coming in correctly and are healthy. It is also recommended that children maintain a routine check-up with their dental provider in order to help monitor any changes.
One of the most important steps in achieving a beautiful, straight smile later on in life is undergoing the appropriate orthodontic treatments when needed. Dental braces can often help children’s teeth grow properly and prevent future alignment problems. Typically, children around the age of seven may be ideal candidates for dental braces. During this time, the child’s bone structure is still easily manipulated in order to ensure a straight smile in a shorter time frame. However, please be sure to note that not all children need braces; this is determined during a consultation after careful and thorough examination.
As an experienced Beverly Hills orthodontist, I evaluate every patient individually and create a personalized treatment plan. This allows every patient to achieve his/her ideal outcome. I encourage you to visit my website to learn more regarding orthodontic treatments for yourself as well as your children.

It may sound simple, but just by eating the right foods and consuming healthy beverages you are helping yourself achieve a beautiful smile. Along with regular check-ups, brushing twice a day, and flossing daily, consuming the following can lead to a more attractive set of teeth:
- Celery
- Cheese
- Green Tea
- Kiwis
- Onions
- Parsley
- Sesame Seeds
- Shiitake Mushrooms
- Wasabi
- Water
These items have been known to naturally fight bacteria, strengthen enamel, freshen breath, and remove plaque, which in turn helps prevent cavities and gum disease. It may be a good idea to increase your intake of these foods and beverages and cut back on the sugary treats – which can lead to tooth decay.
You may learn more regarding proper dental care during an initial consultation at my Beverly Hills practice. Those looking for a Los Angeles cosmetic dentist often request an appointment to discuss their options.

The teeth and gums tend to change throughout our entire lives, and women in their reproductive years are urged to take extra precautions when planning a family. It is common for the gums to become inflamed a few days before menstruation, and then return to normal by the first day of menstruation. During this time, women should be more meticulous about their oral health in order to help prevent gum disease or plaque buildup.
Other issues that women should be aware of include the increase in acids present in the mouth during the first few months of pregnancy. Most women experience morning sickness, which causes them to vomit, bringing in eroding acids into the mouth. It is important for women to thoroughly rinse the mouth and wait at least 20 to 30 minutes before brushing. Also, some may experience dry mouth, while others have excessive salivation. In either circumstance, it is important to properly remedy the occurrence (sip on water or be more aware of what causes excess salivation) in order to prevent gum disease and/or cavities.
It is my goal to help patients achieve a healthy smile, which is why I highly urge you to schedule an appointment at my office near Los Angeles. Although treatments, including implant dentistry, should be postponed until the second or third trimester of your pregnancy, it is best to learn of any complications in order to create an optimal treatment plan.
